1914 A.L.F.A. 40/60 HP Aerodinamica Prototype

The 1914 A.L.F.A. 40/60 HP Aerodinamica Prototype, also known as the Alfa 40-60 HP Siluro Ricotti, is a remarkable creation that showcases the blend of automotive innovation and artistic design. Crafted by Carrozzeria Castagna in Milan on a 1913 40-60 h.p. chassis, this masterpiece represents the engineering prowess of its time.

At the heart of the Alfa 40-60 HP Siluro Ricotti lies a robust 6082 cc straight-four engine, housed within a conventional shaft-drive chassis. Commissioned by Count Marco Ricotti, the collaboration with Carrozzeria Castagna resulted in an exquisite creation. The defining feature of this model is its damascened aluminum body, inspired by dirigibles, reflecting the avant-garde spirit of the era.

The front of the body features a distinctive cutout that gracefully tapers back to reveal a Mercedes-style brass radiator, blending luxury with functionality. Access to the powerful engine is provided through strategically positioned square doors behind the front wheels, adding practicality and enhancing the vehicle's aesthetic appeal.

The aerodynamic silhouette of the aluminum body significantly contributed to the car's performance, boosting its top speed by 14 km/hour to a reported peak of 150 km/hour (93 mph). Today, this automotive masterpiece is housed in the Alfa Romeo Museum in Milan, serving as a testament to the fusion of artistry and engineering.

With its unique design and exceptional performance, the Alfa 40-60 HP Siluro Ricotti encapsulates the spirit of innovation that defines Alfa Romeo's legacy in the automotive world.
