The 2006 Honda Civic Type-R Concept was shown at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show as a preview of the next-generation Civic Type R. Based on Honda's three-door Civic hatchback, the concept was very close to the production model that would follow in 2007.
Power came from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder i-VTEC engine producing around 200 horsepower. Honda stayed with the traditional Type R formula, using a high-revving, naturally aspirated engine rather than a turbocharger. The production car would also use a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive.
The Type-R Concept stood out with its bright yellow paint and more aggressive bodywork. Changes included a black mesh front grille, larger bumper air intakes, side skirts and 18-inch multi-spoke wheels with low-profile tires. Large disc brakes and yellow brake calipers were visible behind the wheels.
Inside, Honda continued the performance theme with sports bucket seats finished in leather and suede, along with aluminum trim and other Type R details. The cabin remained based on the regular Civic but was designed to give the car a more focused feel.

Although Honda called it a concept, the 2006 Civic Type-R was essentially a preview of the upcoming production car. Production was planned for Honda's Swindon factory in England, with the new Civic Type R reaching the European market in 2007.
The Geneva concept was an important first look at the new generation of Honda's popular hot hatch. It kept the basic Type R formula simple: a lightweight three-door Civic, a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter engine, manual transmission and front-wheel drive, combined with sharper styling and a more performance-focused interior.
