2003 Buick Centieme Concept

The 2003 Buick Centieme Concept was a significant vehicle developed to celebrate Buick's 100th anniversary while also showcasing a vision for the brand's future. This crossover concept combined elements of a sedan and SUV, featuring luxurious seating for six passengers across three rows. Its design exhibited Buick's signature flowing lines and a classic grille, embodying elegance with a touch of ruggedness.

Under the hood, the Centieme boasted a powerful 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, delivering an impressive 400 horsepower and 400 lbs.-ft. of torque. This engine was paired with a Hydra-Matic 4T65-E four-speed automatic transaxle and General Motors' Versatrak all-wheel-drive system. The Versatrak system allowed for advanced traction control, transferring torque between the front and rear wheels as needed to optimize performance on various road surfaces.

From a suspension standpoint, the Centieme utilized a strut configuration in the front and an SLA independent suspension with coils in the rear, providing car-like handling and performance. The vehicle rolled on 22-inch aluminum wheels with Michelin tires, complemented by substantial braking power from six-piston calipers in the front and four-piston calipers in the rear.

Designed by Bertone, a renowned Italian design house, the Centieme's exterior featured a striking Canyon Mist metallic tricoat finish and a layout reminiscent of Buick's existing Rendezvous crossover but with lower, wider proportions. Inside, the cabin showcased Buick's future interior styling direction, characterized by a luxurious blend of leathers, aluminum accents, and olive ash wood inserts. The interior ambiance was enhanced by ambient lighting, creating a sophisticated and inviting atmosphere.

The legacy of the Buick Centieme lived on through its influence on subsequent Buick models, notably contributing design cues to the 2008 Buick Enclave crossover. This concept car not only celebrated Buick's rich history but also provided a glimpse into the brand's evolving design language and technological innovations.
