Based on the Fiat 128, the Pulsar was constructed to study passenger safety and light material construction. The Pulsar was one of the first cars to feature shock-absorbing bumpers. The shock absorber was made of special plastic, the headlights were retractable, and a body-integrated protective buffer ran around the car. The side windows were tinted, and the car was finished in bright yellow to catch the attention of other drivers.
