The Kimera Automobili K39 is the car that moves Kimera beyond the restomod label. After building its name with the Lancia 037-inspired EVO37 and EVO38, Kimera used the K39 to step into full hypercar territory.
The car debuted at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on the shores of Lake Como, with both a road-going Stradale version and a more extreme Pikes Peak configuration. Its shape still pulls from Lancia racing history, especially Group 5 and endurance-era cars, but the K39 is not simply an old car rebuilt with modern parts. It uses a carbon-fiber monocoque, carbon body panels, and advanced aerodynamics developed around a clean-sheet platform.
The biggest change is behind the cabin. Earlier Kimera models used highly tuned four-cylinder engines, but the K39 uses a bespoke twin-turbo V8 developed by Koenigsegg. Kimera rates it at 1,000 horsepower and 1,200 Nm of torque, with peak power at 7,350 rpm and an 8,250-rpm redline. It is paired with a 7-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, giving the car a far more analog personality than most modern hypercars.
The design is aggressive without losing the old Italian race-car feel. The front uses deep aero channels and an S-duct, while the rear has a wider stance, huge cooling intakes, a large diffuser, and a serious wing. The Pikes Peak version goes further, adding a massive front splitter, larger side aero, a roof-mounted intake, full high-downforce bodywork, and Martini-style racing livery.
Kimera has not announced the full production run, but more than 20 cars were already allocated before the public reveal. A limited number of early customers will also get access to the Pikes Peak configuration.
What makes the K39 interesting is the mix. It has Italian styling, Lancia-inspired racing DNA, a Swedish Koenigsegg engine, a manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive, and no hybrid system. In a hypercar market full of electrified powertrains and digital excess, the K39 feels intentionally mechanical.
The Kimera K39 is not just a faster follow-up to the EVO37 and EVO38. It is Kimera’s attempt to become a real hypercar maker while still carrying the spirit of the wild Italian race cars that made people care about the brand in the first place.
