An A-Z guide to 142 concept cars, prototypes, manufacturer show builds and updated design studies from 2024.
The concept cars of 2024 covered everything from hydrogen-burning racing engines to compact electric vans. Manufacturers in China brought new sedans and utility vehicles to Beijing, European brands previewed electric successors to familiar names, and Japanese companies built some of the year's most unusual working show cars. There were also cars that existed mainly to test aerodynamics, racing technology or new materials.
This guide covers vehicles unveiled in 2024 as concepts, prototypes or manufacturer-led one-off builds. The main section concentrates on new vehicle projects. Factory customization builds, digital-only designs and substantially updated older concepts are listed separately so a reappearance is not mistaken for a world premiere. Specifications refer to the vehicle that was shown; figures proposed for a later production model are not treated as independently measured results.

New concepts, prototypes and design studies
The new styling studies, experimental vehicles and pre-production prototypes revealed during 2024, arranged by manufacturer and model.
2024 Acura Performance EV Concept
Acura used Monterey Car Week to preview the shape of its next electric performance SUV. The prototype was designed in Los Angeles, with a long hood, muscular rear quarters and a coupe-like roofline. It also signaled a new Honda-developed EV platform rather than the GM-based hardware used by Acura's first ZDX electric SUV. Acura did not give final battery, motor or range figures for the show car.
2024 Alpine A390 Beta Concept
Alpine presented the A390 Beta in Paris as a five-seat electric fastback with the stance of a sports car. It is lower than a conventional SUV and wears a sharp lighting signature, sculpted flanks and a highly experimental cockpit. Alpine used the car to preview its first electric performance crossover, developed to sit alongside the A290 hatchback and an electric A110 successor. The prototype's cabin is more radical than the planned production interior.
2024 Alpine Alpenglow Hy4 Concept
The Alpenglow Hy4 took Alpine's 2022 hydrogen concept off the show stand and onto the track. Its first running version used a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making about 340 horsepower, burning hydrogen rather than gasoline. A carbon racing chassis and low, wide body made it a test bed for racing hardware, not a proposed road car. Alpine used the project to study combustion engines without conventional tailpipe carbon dioxide emissions.

2024 Alpine Alpenglow Hy6 Concept
Alpine developed the hydrogen Alpenglow further with the Hy6, which replaced the four-cylinder test engine with a purpose-built 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6. Alpine quoted 740 horsepower and 770 Nm, with power sent through a sequential racing gearbox. The LMP3-derived carbon chassis holds pressurized hydrogen tanks, while the body adds large ducts and downforce-generating surfaces. The Hy6 demonstrated a separate engineering stage from the earlier Hy4, not a new production model.
2024 Ariel E-Nomad Concept
British maker Ariel developed an electric version of its open-frame Nomad off-road sports car. The E-Nomad keeps the lightweight exposed chassis and minimal bodywork but swaps the combustion drivetrain for a battery-electric motor and reduction gearbox. Its 41-kWh battery targets short, hard recreational driving rather than family-car range. Ariel built the prototype to explore whether electric torque, revised weight distribution and very low mass could preserve the regular Nomad's playful handling.
2024 Audi E Concept
Audi unveiled the E concept in China to launch a new China-focused brand styled as AUDI, without the traditional four-ring badge. The low electric sportback combines a long wheelbase with clean body sides, a broad illuminated front frame and a full-width digital display inside. Its 800-volt architecture and dual-motor drivetrain informed the brand's planned production line. This was a distinct Chinese-market development program, not an A6 e-tron trim.
2024 BMW Skytop Concept
BMW showed the Skytop at Villa d'Este as an open-top two-seat grand tourer with an unusually clean body. It has a stretched hood, tapered rear deck and a removable roof arrangement, with styling references to the 503 and Z8. The running show car was based on BMW's V8 grand-touring hardware. Frameless doors and an unusual opening arrangement emphasized its design-study status. Its cabin previewed the company's digital interface work, while the wide lower front air opening and rear aerodynamic details added a sporting look. Technical specifications were not published for this particular prototype, so production power figures from the eπ007 should not be applied to it.
2024 DS SM Tribute Concept
DS Automobiles marked the Citroen SM's history with a modern low coupe called SM Tribute. It preserves the original's broad glasshouse and long front body but replaces the classic details with thin lighting and clean aerodynamic surfaces. The roughly 4.94-meter-long design is a styling exercise, not a restored SM with modern running gear. DS used the interior to explore future materials and interfaces while referencing the original car's unusual dashboard geometry.
2024 Exeed E08 Concept
Chery's premium Exeed division used the E08 to preview a luxury multi-purpose vehicle at Beijing. The long wheelbase, tall cabin and generous side door openings put rear passenger access ahead of the traditional SUV look. Exeed developed soft, flowing exterior surfacing and a lounge-focused interior as part of its Wind Aesthetics design work. The E08 was a concept for a possible premium people carrier, not a model with confirmed final power and price.
2024 Fangchengbao Super 3 Concept
BYD's Fangchengbao brand unveiled the Super 3 as a compact, rugged electric SUV concept alongside the Super 9. Angular body panels, pronounced wheel arches, exposed-looking structural graphics and a rear spare-wheel housing give it an adventure-oriented shape. It foreshadowed the smaller Bao-series SUV rather than another full-size off-roader. The design was inspired by a 'starfighter' theme, although the company had not finalized battery and motor specifications at its unveiling.
2024 Fangchengbao Super 9 Concept
The Super 9 was the more extreme of Fangchengbao's two April 2024 concepts. It is a roofless, two-seat electric speedster with a very low nose, sculpted side air channels and a cockpit divided by a prominent center spine. Renault returned to the Twingo electric city-car study in 2024 after showing the first concept at the end of 2023. The rounded nose, three light elements and compact one-box shape deliberately echo the first-generation 1990s Twingo. Renault refined the presentation to illustrate a low-cost European EV with practical cabin space. It belongs in an updated-reveal section because the initial model concept was not created in 2024.
2024 Tata Harrier EV Updated Prototype Concept
Tata continued developing its Harrier EV concept for Indian roads in 2024 after first showing the design in 2023. The study adapts the mid-size Harrier SUV body to an electric platform and proposes an all-wheel-drive layout using electric motors. Exterior updates, connected cabin technology and charging provisions were key themes in the ongoing program. It should not be mistaken for a new 2024 design debut, even though Tata displayed it during Bharat Mobility.
2024 Toyota bZ3C Updated Prototype Concept
Toyota showed an advanced bZ3C electric crossover prototype in China in 2024, building on the earlier bZ Sport Crossover concept revealed in 2023. Its sloping roof, sharp front lights and digital cabin targeted younger Chinese EV buyers. Toyota worked with Chinese partners on product development and localization. The 2024 presentation was a more production-oriented version of an existing design idea, not a completely separate new concept nameplate.
2024 Toyota bZ3X Updated Prototype Concept
The China-focused bZ3X SUV appeared in a more advanced form at the 2024 Beijing show following the bZ FlexSpace idea revealed in 2023. It prioritized a tall cabin, usable seating space and a straightforward electric crossover layout. Toyota's collaboration with Chinese automotive partners informed the cabin electronics and local market specifications. The 2024 vehicle was important as a production preview, but its conceptual roots date to the previous year.
