The 2006 Chery LUI Concept, also known internally as the Running-5, was unveiled by Chery at the Beijing Motor Show 2006 as part of the company’s collaboration with Torino Design. Developed alongside the Chery LEI coupe concept, the LUI represented Chery’s growing interest in creating more globally competitive vehicles through European-influenced styling and advanced design experimentation.

Designed as a sporty compact SUV, the LUI Concept focused heavily on visual movement and sculptural surfacing. Rather than using flat body panels or conservative proportions, the design emphasized tension and forward motion through strong character lines and layered forms. The most prominent design feature was the sharply defined shoulder line that extended along the waistline before merging into the A-pillars and hood structure. This continuous flow visually pushed the body forward, giving the SUV a more dynamic and aggressive stance, particularly from side and three-quarter front angles.

The front fascia was built around a strong geometric theme. Two large C-shaped elements framed the headlights and lower air intakes, creating a more technical and futuristic appearance. At the center of the hood sat Chery’s prominent oval emblem, from which two ridgelines extended outward across the front bodywork. This layout reinforced the concept’s identity while creating a more cohesive relationship between branding and surface design.
