2001 Isuzu GBX Concept

The Isuzu GBX concept vehicle, unveiled as a vision of a Gear Box, reimagines the SUV as a fun and practical means of transporting equipment for various activities. Drawing inspiration from the stagecoaches of the American West, the GBX combines historical influences with modern design to represent one vision of the SUV for the new century. The concept emphasizes the power to travel anywhere in the great outdoors, blending functionality with enjoyment.


Key Features and Design:

  • The GBX features a cubic appearance typical of Japanese design, deliberately highlighting its body structure and incorporating large 21-inch wheels.

  • Doors without a center pillar and a sliding rear roof for transporting long cargo contribute to the concept's distinct appearance.

  • The design draws inspiration from the Conestoga van, considered the first SUV in American history, emphasizing practicality and reliability.


Interior and Practicality:

  • The third-row seats are removable and can be carried like suitcases, enhancing the vehicle's versatility.

  • Front seats are cantilevered from the center console to allow for underseat storage.

  • A gear port built into the cargo gate provides easy access to small items in the cargo area and offers features like tool storage and shelves for outdoor equipment.

  • Electrically operated drop steps on the sides and rear enhance accessibility.

  • Practical features include a removable cabin lamp that can be used as a flashlight.

  • The instrument panel in the upper center console contains a futuristic see-through speedometer and tachometer.
