2001 Isuzu Axiom XSF Concept

Isuzu introduced the Axiom XSF concept vehicle at the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) annual show in Las Vegas on October 30, 2001. This concept aimed to maximize the street performance potential of the Axiom, creating the ultimate "performance utility vehicle" with a factory-developed total performance package.

Revolutionary Styling: The Axiom XSF featured enhanced styling with a ground effects body kit designed by Isuzu Motors America, Inc. and fabricated by Italdesign California. The custom body kit included front and rear air dams, rocker sills, rear spoiler, integrated wheel arch, bodyside moldings, a redesigned hood with functional air outlets, and a performance blister for the supercharger. The vehicle was painted in Excessive Red using glass bead technology for intensified color depth. The exterior also boasted a custom black-mesh grille, quad fog lights, and a more aggressive street presence.

Supercharged Performance: The Axiom XSF was not just for show; it delivered performance with an AutoRotor supercharger and Laminova intercooler, boosting the 3.5-liter V6 engine to 275 horsepower and 260 pounds-feet of torque. The supercharger interfaced with Axiom's drive-by-wire electronic throttle control for instant response. The Borla cat-back dual exhaust system was tuned to the supercharger's airflow characteristics for optimal performance.

Agile Dynamics: Built on the lightweight rear-wheel-drive Axiom platform, the XSF featured a sophisticated four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with a limited-slip differential. Brembo F50 drilled disc brakes provided stopping power, and an Eibach-tuned performance suspension enhanced agility and cornering balance. The Axiom XSF rolled on custom-designed 18'' x 9'' HRE seven-spoke polished aluminum alloy wheels with Pirelli Scorpion Zero 255/55ZR18 high-performance cross-terrain tires.

Interior Transformation: The interior received a fun factor boost with Recaro sport front bucket seats, a bolstered three-passenger rear seat trimmed in gray leather, body-color accents, red-tone instrument gauge graphics, aluminum sport pedals, and custom-designed floor and cargo mats. Clarion high-grade speakers and an XM Satellite Radio receiver were added for an enhanced audio experience.

Utility: Maintaining its SUV utility, the Axiom XSF offered increased cargo flexibility, impressive storage with the rear seats folded, and a 60/40 split folding rear seat for longer objects. The concept emphasized expressive styling, comfort, performance, and handling modifications, positioning it as a distinctive "performance utility vehicle."

Isuzu monitored consumer reactions to the Axiom XSF during its auto show tour, indicating that if well-received, a vehicle inspired by its dynamic characteristics could potentially join Isuzu's SUV lineup in the future.
