2001 Ford Forty-Nine Concept by Ghia

The 2001 Ford Forty-Nine Concept by Ghia draws inspiration from the classic 1949-1951 Ford, capturing the essence of the hot rod era. With a chopped and channeled appearance reminiscent of customized cars from that period, the Forty-Nine stands out with its rounded, high-intensity discharge headlights, projector-beam front lighting, and sleek LED taillights. The all-glass upper structure of the roof adds a modern touch.

Inside, the Forty-Nine features a raised console between four bucket seats and a classic single-dial gauge cluster in front of the driver. The Maori tattoo-inspired leather-wrapped tonneau cover pays homage to tradition. The engine, a Thunderbird 3.9-liter DOHC V-8, is tuned for refined muscle, proudly displaying a "Powered by Thunderbird" badge.

The concept car revisits the iconic 1949 Ford, a symbol of post-war optimism and design revolution. The original '49 Ford became a sensation, winning the prestigious Fashion Academy Award. In the late '40s and early '50s, it became a favorite among hot rod enthusiasts, showcasing adaptability for modifications.

The Ford Forty-Nine Concept, introduced at the 2001 North American International Auto Show, is a nostalgic journey down memory lane. With its clean lines, modern conveniences, and nods to history, the Forty-Nine pays homage to the original '49 Ford and the customization craze of the mid-20th century. The exterior's velvety black finish and chrome accents, combined with a two-tone interior, create a visually appealing and modern interpretation of classic design cues.

The interior of the Forty-Nine continues the blend of past and present, featuring a cantilevered, power-actuated bench-style front seat and a floating center console. The instrument cluster maintains an old-fashioned feel with a central analog tachometer, while modern controls remain hidden under a folding panel. The rearview mirror along a prominent 'wind-split' rod adds a striking touch.

Under the hood, the engine bay reflects the exterior design philosophy, featuring satin black, stainless, and chrome finishes. The Thunderbird 3.9-liter V8, tuned for the Forty-Nine's appearance, is highlighted by a chrome 'Powered by Thunderbird' badge.

The Ford Forty-Nine Concept encapsulates the love affair with the open road and the automobile, reminiscent of the romance and passion of American touring cars from the past. It's a blend of classic design and modern innovation, paying tribute to the iconic '49 Ford while delivering a thrilling experience for enthusiasts.
