2001 Aston Martin 2020 by ItalDesign

In a surprising venture, ItalDesign, known for its British collaborations, unveiled the Aston Martin Twenty-Twenty, based on the DB7. Powered by a 6-liter V12 with 500 hp, this luxury Gran Turismo retained a classic layout, featuring a wheelbase of 2591 mm. Notably, dimensions underwent significant changes, with measurements of 4455x1900x1300 mm, primarily attributed to the distinctive outward-protruding thresholds made of unpainted aluminum, forming part of the external power frame.

A standout feature of the Twenty-Twenty is its external door hinges, a bold detail seen on only a few production cars, including Defender, Gelandewagen, Wrangler, and UAZ. The Giugiaro family, known for its focus on frame-panel bodies, previously showcased a similar design in the 1998 ItalDesign Structura minivan.

The protruding power elements in the Twenty-Twenty play a pivotal role in defining the car's silhouette, with gap-filling panels crafted from smoky green plastic and carbon fiber as additional enhancements. The interior, marked by traditional leather in two shades, wood, and hints of aluminum, reflects a balance between classic and modern design. The Giugiaro family chose to maintain the iconic round dials in the instrument cluster, although they had considered an alternative version with rectangular liquid crystal screens during the design process.

This fusion of traditional Aston Martin elegance with ItalDesign's innovative exterior features makes the Twenty-Twenty a remarkable Gran Turismo offering a unique blend of craftsmanship and modernity.
