2000 Mitsubishi SST Spyder Concept

In a precursor to the 2001 Eclipse Spyder, Mitsubishi unveiled the SST Spyder concept at the 1999 Chicago Auto Show, showcasing a blend of futuristic design and high-performance capabilities. Reflecting the company's "geo-mechanical" design philosophy, this roadster prototype not only predicted the styling of its successor but also pushed the boundaries of innovation.

The SST Spyder's exterior boasted distinctive "geo-mechanical" elements, exemplified by ribbed side doors that added an extra layer of visual appeal. Neon and fluorescent head and taillights further emphasized its cutting-edge design, providing a glimpse into Mitsubishi's commitment to pushing the envelope in automotive aesthetics.

Functionality met performance under the hood, where the fully drivable SST Spyder housed a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, generating an impressive 250 horsepower. This powerhouse was seamlessly paired with a 4-speed Sportronic automatic gearbox, ensuring a dynamic driving experience that complemented the car's sporty persona.

Beneath the sleek exterior, the SST Spyder featured a multi-link 4-wheel independent suspension setup, showcasing Mitsubishi's dedication to delivering optimal handling and ride comfort. The inclusion of large racing brakes further emphasized the car's performance-oriented design, promising precision stopping power to match its formidable acceleration.
