2000 Dodge Viper GTS-R Concept

The Viper GTS/R racing concept car made its debut at the North American Auto Show in Detroit. This street-legal version of the Viper GT-S is the racing counterpart to the GTS Coupe. It features an 8-liter aluminum V10 engine with a high-performance six-speed manual gearbox, delivering 500 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. The dry-sumped engine is complemented by a chassis and body lowered by 3 inches, with slightly larger body dimensions.

The Viper GTS/R incorporates electronically controlled aerodynamics both front and rear, along with a driver-controlled rear wing, to generate downforce for road-hugging handling. It boasts a zero-to-60 time in the 3.8-sec range and a top speed exceeding 200 mph. The development of the Dodge Viper, initiated by Chrysler President Bob Lutz in 1989 as a spiritual successor to the Cobra, resulted in the Viper RT10 model by 1991. The Viper GTS further demonstrated Chrysler's commitment to motorsports. At the 2000 Detroit Auto Show, the prototype Viper GTS/R showcased a powerful 500-horsepower V10 engine capable of reaching a top speed of about 320 km/h.
