2001 Renault Talisman Concept

The 2001 Renault Talisman Concept emerged as a luxurious four-seater sports coupe, characterized by its flowing yet muscular lines that exuded purposeful elegance. Stepping inside the Talisman revealed a glimpse of the future for car interiors, showcasing a comfortable and sober serenity. The concept introduced the innovative "Touch Design" concept, emphasizing perfect symbiosis between human and machine. This design philosophy aimed to create a compelling and intuitive environment where the form and texture of each element suggested its function, enticing users to interact actually.

Renault's grand presence at the show included the Talisman, following the technical challenges faced by the avant-garde Avantime. Despite the uncertainties surrounding the Avantime, the Talisman concept car presented a breakthrough in design, forming the pinnacle of the model range. With dimensions measuring 4805 mm in length, 1950 mm in width, 1380 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2950 mm, the Talisman positioned itself as a substantial and impressive vehicle.

One of the standout features of the Talisman was its gullwing doors, boasting an extraordinary length of 2450 mm. These doors provided simultaneous access to both rows of seats, enhancing the sense of grandeur. Chief designer Patrick Le Queman paid meticulous attention to the interior, incorporating Tag Heuer watches into the dashboard. The clock, breaking the sedate monotony, became a focal point, while four crystal-layered instruments were grouped near the steering wheel. A monitor in a deep niche displayed a panoramic image from three video cameras, replacing traditional rear-view mirrors. The system, supplied by Donnely, offered control functions accessible through voice commands. The seats, resembling beach loungers, added an interesting touch to the interior design.

Underneath the Talisman's hood resided a powerful 4.5-liter 32-valve V8 engine, generating 269 horsepower at 5600 rpm and a maximum torque of 394 Nm at 4000 rpm. Notably, this engine was shared with the Nissan President, suggesting an influence from the Nissan acquisition. The Talisman featured rear-wheel drive, equipped with Michelin PAX tires on Montupet aluminum wheels equivalent to 21 inches in size. Colossal disc brakes, measuring 380 mm, and six-piston calipers contributed to the concept's impressive performance and handling.

Despite the uncertainties surrounding the Avantime, the Renault Talisman Concept showcased the brand's unmistakable style with cosmopolitan flair, blending innovation, luxury, and performance in a captivating package.
