In 1965, Jo Collins, Playmate of the Year, received a one-of-a-kind Sunbeam Tiger as a reward, painted in a distinctive "Playmate Pink." The car was special for more than just its color — it was powered by a Ford V8 engine, thanks to Carroll Shelby's ingenious idea to fit a Ford V8 into Sunbeam's convertible Alpine.
This model became even rarer when Chrysler, who had started taking shares in the British Routes Group in 1964, decided to halt the Tiger's production. Chrysler didn’t want to use Ford’s V8 engines, and none of Chrysler's own V8s could fit the Sunbeam’s design. As a result, the Tiger, and the Playmate Pink version, became a limited and cherished part of automotive history.
