The 2006 Kia Pro Cee'd (pro_cee'd) Concept was a three-door C-segment hatchback created to preview the sportier side of Kia’s new European Cee'd family. Unveiled at the 2006 Paris Motor Show, it took the practical five-door Cee'd and lowered the roof, widened the visual stance and gave it 19-inch wheels, four individual seats and enough brown leather to make a compact hatchback feel like a concept lounge.

The Kia Pro Cee'd Concept was designed at Kia’s European Design Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany, under chief designer Gregory Guillaume. It followed the five-door Cee'd Concept shown in Geneva earlier that year and continued Kia’s push to create cars specifically for European buyers. The show car also previewed the three-door production model that would later join the Cee'd range.

The concept measured 4,291 mm (168.9 in) long, 1,800 mm (70.9 in) wide and 1,433 mm (56.4 in) tall. Its roofline sat 25 mm lower than the five-door Cee'd, while shallower side windows and chrome window trim made the body look longer and more coupe-like. The stance was finished with 19-inch two-piece wheels using five pairs of spokes, recessed black centers and polished outer sections, wrapped in 265/30 R19 low-profile tires.

Kia deliberately gave the concept a much stronger shape than the regular Cee'd. The roof flowed into a steep rear hatch, the shoulders were more muscular and the glass area was reduced to make the body look heavier and lower. The exterior was painted Cashew, a warm metallic brown chosen to separate it from the usual silver concept-car crowd. The whole thing looked like the sensible Cee'd had changed clothes after work and decided it was staying out late.

Inside, the 2006 Kia Pro Cee'd Concept was configured for four people with individual sport-style seats. The upper dashboard and cabin surfaces used deep matte-black finishes, while the lower sections were trimmed in Pilot Brown distressed leather designed to resemble a worn flying jacket. Bright metal trim appeared around the cabin, and even the floor used a special Carbon Leather material embossed with a carbon-fiber pattern.

The driver faced three deeply recessed instruments, each with its own metal cowling, beneath a dashboard top that appeared to float above them. A short leather-covered gear lever sat in a bright metal surround on the center console, with the main controls positioned close to the driver. Kia was trying to make the cabin feel more like a purpose-built sporty car than simply a three-door version of a family hatchback.

The concept mattered because it was very close to the direction Kia eventually put into production. The showroom Kia Pro Cee'd kept the three-door layout, lower roof and sportier proportions while toning down the oversized wheels, leather-heavy interior and show-car detailing. It joined the five-door Cee'd and Cee'd Sporty Wagon as the sportier three-door member of Kia’s new European compact-car family.

The 2006 Kia Pro Cee'd Concept was an important step in Kia’s European transformation. It was designed in Europe, aimed at European buyers and previewed a real production model rather than a distant design fantasy. More than anything, it showed that Kia was beginning to treat styling as a reason to buy the car, not just something wrapped around the price tag.
