The 2006 Dodge Rampage Concept was a full-size pickup idea aimed at people who needed truck utility but did not want a traditional truck. It debuted at the 2006 Chicago Auto Show with a cab-forward shape, a short hood, a large cabin, and a 5-foot bed behind it.

The oddest detail was the layout. Instead of the usual rear-wheel-drive truck setup, the Rampage used front-wheel drive. That sounds strange for a HEMI-powered pickup, but it helped Dodge package the cabin, bed, and folding interior more creatively. The concept used a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 making 345 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission.

The Rampage was not small. It measured 215.1 inches long, 80.0 inches wide, and 74.3 inches tall, with a 142.2-inch wheelbase. That made it closer to full-size truck territory than the original 1980s Dodge Rampage, even though both shared the unusual front-wheel-drive pickup idea.

The real trick was cargo flexibility. The truck had a 5-foot bed, a dual-mode midgate, a retractable rear window, hidden storage areas, and Stow ’n Go-style folding seats. The front passenger seat and rear 60/40 seats could fold into the floor, creating a flat load area that extended through the cabin. Dodge was borrowing minivan packaging logic and applying it to a pickup.

The exterior leaned hard into show-truck drama. It had sliding rear doors, 22-inch wheels, flared fenders, deployable side steps, and Liquid Carbon paint. But beneath the styling, the idea was practical: make a truck that could carry people comfortably, then quickly convert into a longer cargo hauler when needed.

The Rampage never reached production, likely because it sat in a difficult middle ground. It was too unconventional for traditional truck buyers, but too large and HEMI-powered to be a simple lifestyle utility vehicle. Still, the concept was ahead of its time in one important way. Modern trucks now sell heavily on cabin comfort, hidden storage, flexible beds, and family usability. Dodge was already exploring that formula in 2006, just with a much stranger front-drive HEMI package.
