2003 Peugeot Hoggar Concept

The 2003 Peugeot Hoggar Concept is an avant-garde two-seater off-road vehicle that embodies a fusion of extreme design and innovative engineering. Designed as a sports car for extreme conditions, the Hoggar showcases a unique aesthetic while featuring advanced technology and high-performance capabilities.

The Hoggar features a robust design characterized by a one-piece carbon honeycomb body reinforced with stainless steel roll-over bars. These bars serve dual purposes: they provide structural integrity and also function as air intakes for the front and rear diesel engines. Each engine, displacing 2168 cc, generates around 180 hp (134 kW), resulting in a combined power output of nearly 360 hp (268 kW) and a maximum torque of 800 Nm (590 lb-ft). The vehicle operates with a sophisticated four-wheel-drive system, featuring two synchronized gearboxes managed by an onboard computer.

The Hoggar's design is inspired by nature, resembling a crouching animal ready to leap. It has compact proportions with minimal overhang, and its dynamic lines create a sense of motion even at a standstill. The front end features a distinctive grille housing the iconic Peugeot lion badge, with cat-like headlights that give it a fierce look. The sleek rear section integrates seamlessly into the passenger compartment, enhancing the vehicle's aerodynamic profile.

Inside, the Hoggar boasts a luxurious and refined interior with leather-upholstered seats and high-quality aluminum accents. The design prioritizes comfort and style, ensuring that both occupants can enjoy an upscale experience even in a rugged off-road environment.

The Hoggar is engineered for performance, with dual transverse turbocharged four-cylinder HDi diesel engines, each featuring a dual overhead camshaft and sixteen valves. The vehicle's suspension employs double wishbones at both the front and rear, providing generous travel and robust handling characteristics. With a total compression and expansion travel of 250 mm each, the suspension system is designed to maintain steering accuracy even over challenging terrain.

In terms of features, the Hoggar's construction consists of a one-piece carbon honeycomb shell with stainless steel reinforcement, while its engines provide a combined output of 360 hp and 800 Nm torque. The ML 6C gearboxes with hydraulic actuators allow for sequential or fully automatic operation, and the suspension system features double wishbones with anti-roll bars and gas dampers for enhanced comfort and control. The luxurious seating is equipped with four-point harnesses, and the open-air design features gull-wing doors. Additionally, the innovative use of LED technology for signaling, including crystal-cut plexiglass bars in the headlamps, underscores the vehicle's modern approach.

The Peugeot Hoggar Concept not only reflects the brand's innovative spirit but also points towards potential future vehicles that could blend luxury, performance, and ruggedness in a unique package.
