1928 Rolls-Royce Phantom I by Zagato


Ugo Zagato, born on the 25th of June 1890, began his coachbuilding career in 1919 when he left the Officine Aeronautiche Pomilio to set up his own business.


He did so with the bold intent of transferring constructional techniques that combined lightness with strength from the aeronautical to the automotive sector. With this advantage, the Alfa Romeos of Scuderia Ferrari, bodied by Zagato, won almost all races they entered. This was functionalism, closely bound up with a sporting vocation and an aesthetic principle that Enzo Ferrari defined when he stated that: the most beautiful car is the one that wins.
